Hearts and school

It's been a busy March with the house full of visitors which has been lovely. Plus the added bonus of Guy's 6 month hospital check and Meg's school visits.

Two big visits in one day - Meg at school and Guy to see Dr Tom. Meg's school visit went very well and I have little doubt she will settle in without too many issues. I also have no doubt that finishing at 2pm for the first 3 weeks will be quite enough for her!

Guy had painted Dr Tom a lovely 'modern' painting to take to the appointment. He showed Dr Tom's painting to the receptionist, the nurse, the echo technician (ultrasound on his heart) until she distracted him with the Wiggles, the ECG technician, and the house surgeon. By this time he was walking the halls asking where Dr Tom was and saying "I think he's gone home for lunch, I think he's having sandwiches, I think he'll be back soon..." I think most of Starship knew Guy had a painting for Dr Tom!

So, the news. Guy's heart has made another small improvement, though still remains a bit 'below normal'. It is the first time they haven't increased his medication, despite the fact he has grown. This is a good sign. There is a possibility that they will let him 'out grow' his medication if his heart is strong enough. *yah* However "competitive contact sport" is unlikely to be on the cards in the future... that's probably ok!

Dr Tom got his picture and made all the right noises, which delighted Guy.

Sarma was also at the appointment which is always handy - medical brain and all that.

Happy Easter all. We'll be celebrating Meg's 5th birthday and continued good hearty health.

Summer: Holidays and home

Click here and type in thodson as the password for pics from our summer... so far.

We've had a lovely time with a month away. We stayed in Hawke's Bay, Masterton, Riversdale, Fielding, Greytown, Palmerston North, Hawke's Bay again and Taupo, with a quick stop in Matamata on the way home. It was wonderful to catch up with so many family (first cousins, second cousins, and fourth cousins!) and friends. Thanks to all those who provided hospitality. I hope we can repay you sometime in 2010.

It was a long time to be away, but when we got home the kids had a new trampoline and treehouse that Bevan had put up, which they love.

In addition Guy turned 3 at the end of January and requested a Bad Jelly the Witch cake and party. *groan* Obviously this was going to stretch creative talents, but, thanks to Bridgit's Australian Women's Weekly Birthday Cake book, he got Bad Jelly... of sorts. Click here for the full rundown (password thodson).

Hope all are well, wherever you are.

Latest TV slot for the young stars

This year's promo for the Heart Children NZ ride at the Taupo Cycle Challenge saw TV3 Sport picking up the story. Both Meg and Guy feature (Meg in pink). Guy made friends with ex All Blacks and all round Super Stars Eroni Clark and Michael Jones.

Thankfully Tessa barely makes an appearance, and only from the front!

Aussie Holiday

We've had a wonderful holiday in Australia with the Ratcliffe's, the Spragvies, and the Ward's. Thanks to all for a great time and sorry about the lack of photos of grown ups!

Guy's 6 month cardio check

Guy had an appointment with the cardio team today and the good news is there is no change (a tiny improvement, which could just be the reading).

There is no change in the meds, except for an increase in one - carvedilol.

So, steady as she goes. Great news ;) Another appointment in 6 months.

Bevan and Tess have also had cardio appointments recently. Tessa's left bundle branch block has had no change and Bevan's heart is at the upper end of normal in size. So generally all good and we won't need to be back till next year.
